Education

School represents the child’s first vision of society beyond the walls of his house; it becomes his inaugural model of extra-family relations, his citizen’s entry into the public, impersonal world. How do they work today, these spaces for education, in their role as shapers of sociability? How does their architecture reflect the changes in an education that increasingly molds itself to the student’s individuality?
Articles in this edition look at education and its buildings and institutions from different angles: an autobiographical reflection, a teacher’s vision, and the view of an architect. They cover a broad range of projects - schools, colleges, a library and a university - that offer an overview of the current relationship between architecture and educational program.
